Computer Instructor Mr. Anthony Mutunga |
Computer Instructor Mr. Moses Wanderi |
During the two last years Nakuru Counseling and Training Institute has investigated a lot of money in computers and internet connections. Computer classes are two with very good equipments and normally quick internet connections. Of course sometimes some disruptions in connections may be but in general I have managed to write my blog very well here.
The Institute has two computer instructors, Anthony Mutunga and Moses Wanderi.
Computer students come mainly from Nakuru but here are also boarding students who do computer studies. Usually they take two courses at the same time. Computer students usually have high school education but at this time of the year also most vocational students have the same. In the beginning of the year the Institute has more students with primary school background.
Mr. Moses tells:"I came here four years ago. At that time we did not have any internet connections, we could not do what we wanted."
Because of good internet connections the Institute can now offer two important courses
1. ICDL, International computer driving license, the exam is done online from S. Africa
2. IT Essential, where students learn computer maintenance in general. They know hardware, prints, laptops, they can repair computers. For the practical part of this students can use old computers, to open, connect, repair. The exam is done online to U.S.A. CISCO.
Mr. Anthony is a senior computer instructor in the Institute. He told that the Institute is waiting to start next level in IT Essentials in next two months.
CCNA, Cisco certified network associate
The Institute has a new computer lab with 25 new computers. Networking has been done by students during their studies so that the Institute did not need to hire anybody to do it. Even in the library students did the networking. Mr. Moses says: "The old computers which are in the library cyber cafe cannot be used for very huge tasks. Therefore five new modern computers if added would be a very good thing for all students."
Mr. Moses was very excited in telling how they in the Institute would like to teach to students not only theory but also how to use one's skills outside in work life. "Therefore we have social worker and liaison officer. In this respect we differ from other institutes, which only put effort to teach theory. Mr. Moses would like to invite people from work life to tell students what kind of other skills are needed if a student would like to become an entrepreneur, work in business life, make web pages etc. He would like to see the student being very proud of their work and feel like "I did a great work".
