Cleaning Day

On Saturdays students have a general cleaning day.

Kenyan food is very simple compared to the Finnish one. At the institute the food of the boarding students is mainly ugali (maissipuuro, every evening), rise and different kinds of beans. Vegetables are sukumawiki, spinich and cabbage, always cooked. Three times a week students eat meat, twice fruits, in the mornings tea + two bans. On Wednesdays and Saturday instead of tea they drink porridge (joka suomalaiselle on lahinna vellia, ja sita juodaankin mukista. Raaka-aine on hirssia).

Making ugali needs strength

Sukumawiki

In Kenya many of the schools have their own kitchen gardens. Also here the school gets all needed sukumawiki, cabbage and spinach from it's own garden.

On Saturday mornings the cooks make chapati for lunch.

Today on Sunday we made together Finnish pulla and korvapuusti. Students were very good designers and very happy. It was very interesting, they said.
