Secretary Lilian Kwambai

Yesterday morning the secretary of the institute Lilian Kwambai was speaking to students about communication skills, privacy and reliability in work life. "Do not do what you are not suspected to do. Be careful and polite." Lilian asked some of the students to show different kinds of feelings. Students did not manage well, one started to laugh even though he was asked to be angry. Lilian said: "You see,  it is not so easy because you do not have just now the feeling inside." The idea was to show that in work life one needs to take care also about one's own feelings.

Visit to Uhuru Secondary School

In the afternoon the Manager of Nakuru Counseling and Training Institute Mr. Joseph Mwangi, Sosial worker Mr. Steve Matu and Liaison officer Mr. Michael Oguya took me with to visit Uhuru Secondary School. Their aim was to make the Institute known among the teachers and students and to speak about career issues.
The Uhuru Secondary School has about 500 student. The lessons took place on a grass between the school buildings.

At first Mr. Joseph told the basic information about Nakuru Counseling and Training Institute. He also explained why we had come to Uhuru High School.

Mr. Michael was speaking about the personality of people. He mentioned practical, investigating, social, artistic and enterprising people. Then he explained what kind of things different types of people like to do and which work they could possibly enjoy. For example investigating people want to solve problems and one possible career might be a microbiologist.

Mr. Steve was speaking besides English also quite a lot of Swahili which I did not understood. His topic was more or less about the inner desires of a person. He said: "Cultivate a strong desire to succeed." Another good advice for life was: "Forgive yourself and forgive all the others."

Both Mr. Michael and Mr. Steve made lots of fun with the students.
Mr Joseph, Mr. Michael and Mr. Steve. The lady in front took care of the students and us from the school's side.

Finally the students wanted also me to say something. I tried to emphasize that especially for the girls it is important to take care about one's own desires and carry out them. I myself wanted to come to Africa already as a student but never could find out my way in practice. Also by getting married and having children may cause that girls have to forget their own desires, especially in a country like Kenya.
